Magazine Genre Research

Art & Design

I really like this genre of magazine as you have a lot of artistic liberty and really get to make it your own. As someone who enjoys making art and coming up with my own pieces I think doing a magazine on art and design can be a great way to incorporate my hobbies and interest into this project. I also would like having the ability to show my art to a wider group of people through the magazine and want to inspire people who see my magazine with ideas for their art or just motivate them to make art in general.

In this specific magazine cover I like the color palate they use and how the Magazine title contrasts against what's going on in the illustration. I also like the composition of the elements in the magazine as the eye is in the background almost judging what's going on in the foreground behind the fire and smoke.

Home & Garden

Home & Garden magazines peek my interest as in interested in becoming an architect or having a career in interior design so I would enjoy making a magazine where I can learn and analyze the principles of designing a house and its interior so I can incorporate them into my photos to make sure the magazine fits the genre well. I also enjoy the beauty and aesthetic these magazines have as they show amazing ways to set up a house and give inspiration on how to design your own rooms.

I really like this example of a Home & Garden magazine cover as I enjoy the simple color tones in the picture and vintage aesthetic as the picture consists of browns, grays, and yellows that all work well together. I also think the way the wooden table is set up is pleasing to the eye without taking too much attention from what is going on the background, making it a really nice picture.

Cooking, Food, & Beverage

I also chose to research about Cooking, Food, & Beverage magazines as I think food can not only look really pleasing but it can also be very experimental. I think food can be turned into art when you think of new ways to represent and show the food or beverage uniquely that your audience probably hasn't seen before. I also think it is important to teach about nutrition and the foods that people should be eating or staying away from depending on their goals. As some who has recently started to put a lot more focus into my meals as I have started my successful journey into gaining weight I believe it to be very important that people are educated on what they are putting into their bodies and what they should be consuming.

I really enjoy this magazine cover due to its presentation, especially with the added ingredients floating on top of the drinks. The different smoothies with their unique colors and vegetables and fruits really work together individually and as a whole when put all together. I love how the smoothies build up in size with their different cup sizes as well as the positioning of them and although the magazine cover has all these different drinks it is able to maintain a simple look.

Science & Nature

I really enjoy this genre of magazines because of nature's pure beauty and how so much amazing art and photos can come from it. As nature is all around us whenever we go outside it also makes it easier to find great spots for photos. Along with that the theme of nature works really well with science and can be a great way to educate people on the science that goes on within nature along with the beautiful photos they see.

Although I like a lot of things about this cover the first thing that catches my eye are those huge tree like lamps that seem to also work like beams for a bridge. I really enjoy their functionality while still fitting in with nature very well and looking almost fantasy like. It wasn't till later that I realized that there was a bridge with people on it which really makes me appreciate how complex this structure is and how they were able to mix nature into these artificial structures for humans to indulge in.
